Adverse healthcare events continue to be a leading cause of death and injury in the United States even though well-documented methods are available that could prevent their occurrence. Opportunities are great.

  • Nearly 25% of ambulatory patients report adverse drug reactions
  • 47% of Americans have a chronic condition
  • Less than 50% of patients with chronic conditions have satisfactory levels of disease control
  • 82% of the U.S. population reported using at least one prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, or dietary supplement in the previous week.
  • 30% reported using five or more of these drugs in the previous week.
  • In 2007, safety-net organizations bought $5 Billion in discounted drugs through the HRSA 340B program.

Our aim: Community Health Centers in Washington State are committed to saving and enhancing hundreds of lives a year by achieving optimal asthma outcomes and eliminating adverse drug events through increased clinical pharmacy services for the patients we serve.

Our goal: To create across Washington State Community Health Centers, a patient centered, inter-disciplinary service delivery system for high-risk asthma patients that will produce these results:

  1. Improved patient safety
  2. Improved patient health outcomes
  3. Integration of cost effective clinical pharmacy services
