International Community Health Services (ICHS)
Job Description: Summary
This position provides Medical Nutrition Therapy and Diabetes Consults to ICHS patients, in addition to WIC and First Steps nutrition consults. It also represents ICHS in the local community health fairs and community Kitchen as a nutrition expert. Offers nutrition guidance and advice to Health Educators, Community Advocates, Child Birth Educators and Behavioral Health staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
Medical Nutritionist
1. Provides nutritional diagnosis and Medical Nutrition Therapy to ICHS patients with chronic diseases and other nutrition-related health problems.
2. Provides individual case management for ICHS patients with Diabetes.
3. Communicates regularly with healthcare providers in order to facilitate collaborative planning for follow-up of patients with diabetes and other nutrition related health problems.
4. Participates in developing, assessing and revising diabetes education curriculum and teaching materials, as needed.
5. Serves as the Nutritionist for the Maternity Support Services (MSS).
6. Serves as a resource on cross cultural nutritional issues to community groups
7. Reviews, selects and/or develops nutrition educational materials for ICHS Clinic patients.
8. Provides Nutrition in-services and updates to clinic staff, as needed.
9. Serves as a dietetics preceptor for medical students, medical and ARNP interns
WIC Dietitian
1. Develops and documents individual nutrition care plans for high-risk WIC Nutrition participants: provides individual nutrition counseling.
2. Performs other WIC/ Nutrition duties such as enrolling new clients, making appointments, certifying clients, etc. as needed.
3. Selects and/or develops nutrition education materials for WIC/Nutrition participants.
4. Attends WIC/Nutrition meetings, trainings, and conferences as needed.
5. Conduct Breastfeeding education to WIC/Nutrition clients and teach Breastfeeding classes as needed.
6. Ensures that State and Federal WIC/ Nutrition program guidelines and voucher security policies are strictly adhered.
Certified Diabetes Educator
1. Diabetes educators must fulfill the requirements of a diabetes educator, meet the academic, professional, and experiential requirements set forth by the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators.
2. Instruction for insulin injection, insulin dosing and medication side effects, and foot care in addition to nutrition counseling.
3. Assess diabetes specific and related medication use.
4. Provides individual case management for ICHS patients with Diabetes.
5. Provide supervision and on-going training to all teams involved in diabetes education in order to meet national standardized diabetes education accreditation program.

Job Requirements
1. Education – Master’s Degree in Nutrition or Public Health with RD and CD status.
2. Experience –Two years WIC experience preferred; clinic training in a hospital or community-based clinic; cross-cultural experience; bilingual in Asian/Pacific Islander languages preferred; experience working with the public and good social/communications skills required; basic computer skills; computer proficiency preferred.
3. Certification/License – Registered and Certified Dietitian (RD, CD) and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Registered/ licensed to practice nutrition and dietetics independently in WA State.
