Pain management is a significant issue in healthcare today with upwards of 70% of emergency room visits related to pain concerns. In addition, community clinicians often require some support as it relates to pain management.

ECHO Pain facilitates a multifaceted approach to chronic pain by incorporating a team of specialists that support primary care clinicians in rural communities in the management of chronic pain and opioids.

ECHO Pain includes brief lectures by specialists on specific topics of interest and in-depth case-based presentations by community clinicians for feedback and recommendations. Clinicians are given access to evidence-based educational resources and are encouraged to express any suggestions or comments that they have regarding ECHO Pain. An environment of group learning and best practice protocols is established to reduce variation in care and improve outcomes for patients experiencing chronic pain.

The ECHO Pain team of specialists also provide clinical patient services through the University of New Mexico Hospital’s Pain Consultation and Treatment Center. See the available services at the UNMH Pain Center.
